The redesigned MOTU 828

Like its predecessor, the new 828 has a pair of XLR combo preamps with gain controls on its front panel, alongside a pair of individually controlled headphones outputs.

However, instead of the clunky screen, you can now get an operational overview with the 3.9-inch (480 x 128) full-color LCD display with metering on both analogue and digital I/O.

On the rear panel, there are eight analogue TRS line inputs, a pair of insert send/return channels, and eight DC-coupled TRS line outputs. This means the 828 supports re-amping and modular CV control workflows.

Man, the new MOTU 828 sure does catch the eye. But remembering the weird kernel patches needed for the 828 ES, gotta wonder if this one plays nice with Linux out of the box. Anyone know?

I'm curious if anyone at your crew is thinking of grabbing one for a review. Be interesting to see how it stacks up in the real world.

They want $1K for that? Ha!

Best I can tell, it lacks the onboard DSP found in the Ultralite 4/5, AVB, or 828 ES interfaces.

It's a big M2/4/6 USB sound card.

Check out the IL Wishlist for upcoming project ideas.
